Weather
Puerto Vallarta is called a tropical paradise for several reasons. One, it is a haven of magnificent beaches and spectacular sunsets. Two, it is a melting pot of culture, with the sheer amount of foreign influence in it. Third, in Puerto Vallarta, there is no harsh winter snow, only the blessed warmth of spring, and the welcome heat of summer.
Puerto Vallarta weather has never been overtly erratic. It is not completely tropical, as it is located at a subtropical zone, but it’s usually sunny over there, with a smattering of rain showers every now and then. The usual temperature of Puerto Vallarta during the day is around 80o F (27o), while nighttime experiences much cooler temperatures ranging from the 60s to mid 70s F (19-24o C ) especially during the winter months.
Since Puerto Vallarta is surrounded by a forest and ocean, rainfalls occur on a regular basis. The rainy season occurs from June to September, with September having the most amount of rainfall. December to January is the peak tourist season for Puerto Vallarta as everyone wants to escape from the cold winter up north. The weather for these months is usually dry, hot and sunny. Spring and autumn season, on the other hand, is usually characterized by moderate temperatures, light winds, and intermittent rain showers.
Rain, especially heavy ones, ruin the beautiful facade of the normally golden beaches, and the water runoffs may cause the normally crytalline waters to turn brown, thus spoiling the beach’s natural beauty. Barring physical appearances however, when storms arise in Puerto Vallarta, the image is actually strangely fascinating. The rain gives off the image of soldiers marching across the cloudy fields, with lightning illuminating their way every once in a while.
Summers are almost always warm and sunny, with afternoon showers being present every once in a while. During the summer season (ranging from late June to early September), the temperature sometimes reach to 90o F (32o). Humidity usually aggravates the heat further, so the weather is truly sweltering during the summer season. The highest temperatures often appear during the months from August to September.
There are hardly any hurricane risks in Puerta Vallarta, only tropical storms and a few thunderstorms. Other than these occurences, the general weather of Puerta Vallarta is stable and safe. Sunshine without the overbearing heat typical of tropical countries make this tourist destination a perfect refuge for those who seek warmth at comfortable temperature levels.
